The Reader's Edge

If you've been in a position where you had to read volumes of text without a lot of time allotted to do so, you may have tried various reading strategies to increase your reading speed. Some higher education teachers and professors encourage students to read faster by skimming. Generally, this simply means reading faster than normal.

Another technique is to read the first sentence in every paragraph, and then skim the rest of the paragraph. However, this seldom works and key information is often missed. Yet another technique involves using your finger to move more quickly down the page, in an attempt to read faster. These reading strategies are typically not as effective as Fluent Reading.

The Fluent Reading Difference
Fluent Reading differs from speed reading in that Fluent Readers are faster and better readers, with improved recall and comprehension. Less efficient readers are slower because their eyes fixate or stop on each word, and they mentally vocalize the word. Skimming methods do not work because the eye simply fixates on fewer words, while the mind continues to vocalize those words. Either way, comprehension suffers and the person can only read as fast as they can speak.

The Reader's Edge® software was created by The Literacy Company to train less efficient readers to become Fluent Readers through the use of six simple exercises. Readers will learn how to read groups of words together at a time to increase speed without sacrificing comprehension. As taught by The Reader's Edge, this reading strategy can be applied to any form of reading, and can be used by readers of any age. We encourage you to order your copy of The Reader's Edge today.
