The Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Native American Initiative

The Boys & Girls Club of America called a high-level meeting in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM with an educational focus about the Boys & Girls Club of America's National Initiative in the Native American Community... and the Club's long-term goals.

Roxanne Spillett, President spoke about the expansion of the Club's programs into the installation and operation of computer laboratories and the introduction and utilization of software eduational programs. She placed great focus on the necessity to enhance reading skills of Native American Club members.

Richard Sutz, President, The Literacy Company was invited to discuss the utilization of The Reader's Edge program that teaches enhanced reading skills, specifically increased reading speeds with improved comprehension and recall.

As part of the two-day meeting, the ten particpants were invited by Ray Begaye, Chief Professinal Oficer, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Navajo Nation to visit three of the Navajo Nation's twelve Boys & Girls Clubs in Fort Defiance, Kayenta and Shiprock.

The Literacy Company, in conjuntion with Ray Begaye is looking forward to establishing a pilot program with the Navajo Nation's Clubs to use The Reader's Edge program.
